Vintage Alex Martin 'The Sterling' Centrepin Fishing Reel.

A vintage Alex Martin 3 1/2 dia. centrepin reel, The Sterling. It has a brass foot and rim ratchet lever and spins like a top, great user pin. 2 xylonite handles and spool release on front plate with makers details on back plate. Great braking method by placing a finger through the hole in the backplate and putting pressure on the very smooth, flat, brass back of the spool, brilliant idea. The reel has had an iron line guard fitted at some time in its distant past, which could easily be removed but seems to add a bit of rustic charm to the otherwise beautiful reel. Please see all photos. Much of the original finish is missing but it is still a great looking, unusual centrepin reel.
