VGC 4" Vintage Bench Made Trotting Centrepin Fishing Reel Very Skilled Maker

I have to say that handling and studying a reel like this is a real pleasure. Perhaps intended as a prototype or maybe just for personal use it carries no marks or branding that I can discover but it most definitely was bench made by very skilled hands. Very Trudex or early Flick-Em like it is a nottingham style trotting reel which has a ventilated shallow arbour spool 4" across with a polished smooth rim and a drum 5/8" wide. The spool, backplate and even the spine to the reel foot are all ventilated to reduce weight. There is an alloy eyed line guide which is adjustable for left or right handed use by turning the backplate on the reel foot fitting. The spool and centre face assembly hosting the optional ratchet switch and the drag button are machined from billets of quality alloy, while the reel fittings are brass and carry an even, age acquired patina. Twin free turning alloy handles mounted on brass screws, smooth and positive ratchet and an effective sprung drag button. The reel foot is just a little under 3" long - straight and firmly mounted. There are some slight signs of use and age but there are no dings, dents or damage, and it spins really well, silent and silky smooth. The amount of work and attention to detail is quite staggering - the machining of the spool, the design and function of the static centre plate to the spool face hosting the ratchet mechanism and drag, the evenly spaced and positioned ventilation holes drilled in the spool and backplate. All things that take a lot of time and thought that one would expect from a high quality brand - maybe a makers mark is hidden somewhere I haven't looked? Watching the spool revolve around the static centre plate is actually quite mesmerizing in the right light.I have no idea of what value to put on it, so I have put it to auction starting at the minimum I would expect and accept and I will leave the rest up to you.
