Description
Here we have a Kenny Kendall "Aerial" 4.5 inch Alloy Centrepin Reel, Made in England, Lovely. The late Kenny Kendall was an Angler and Leeds Tackle Dealer. In the period after WW2 and well into the 1950's in England, fishing tackle was expensive and in short supply, so many tackle dealers looked for alternative supplies, none perhaps with such great effect as Kenny Kendall. He had the fortune to have a talented machinist in Arthur Crompton and they set to making a range of reels to order, all unmarked of course, just in case a patent holder like Allcocks came knocking... This is a four and half inch diameter reel, which has all the characteristics of the famous Aerial reels of the 1930's, see photos. It spins beautifully for over 90 seconds on one good tweak, having been cleaned and oiled. There is an on/off check operated by a sliding button on the backplate and a variable drag control operated from a wheel one of the front spokes. This is quite a wide arbor reel being one and three quarter inches in overall depth, ideal to take enough line for Carp & Barbel. This is possibly proof that they succeeded so well in design and manufacture, that the resulting reel may just be better than the original.
